-Overview of the history and current context of yoga

-Study and exploration of basic anatomy: bones, fascia, muscles

-Understanding the anatomy of the feet, ankles, legs, and pelvis and how they relate to posture

-The use of props for proprioceptive awareness

-The use of adjustments for proprioceptive awareness and support

-Detailed breakdown of common postures

-Principles of sound sequencing

-Effective sequencing of common standing postures

-Seeing bodies and histories


 

Immersion 2: The deeper dimensions of Yoga

Jan 16, 17, 18, 19

-Daily Asana, Pranayama, and meditation Practice

-Study and discussion of ancient and contemporary yogic texts and how they inform a modern practice

-The nervous system and its role in asana practice

-considerations for trauma

-Subtle anatomy

-Restorative practices

-The anatomy of the spine and its variations

-Effective sequencing for spinal awareness and health

-The use of props for proprioceptive awareness

-The use of adjustments for proprioceptive awareness and support

-Detailed breakdown of common postures

-Practice teaching and finding one’s voice


 

Immersion 3: Adjustments and Practice Teaching

Feb 20, 21, 22, 23

-Daily Practice

-The considerations for the teacher-student dynamic: its potentials, limitations, and pitfalls

-Ethics of teaching

-Business of Yoga

-Adjustment, sequencing, and cuing clinic

The weekend sessions include Friday evenings from 5:45-9:15pm. They will build on what has been introduced and explored in depth during the immersions. Each session will include a practice, review of key concepts, asana clinics, anatomical considerations, sequencing, assisting, and more. During these sessions, the teacher trainees will be working in small groups, practicing and testing their skills in a supportive and honest setting.

One-on-one session with Erika:

1 hr, to be scheduled after the start of the course

 

Practicum and class observation: 15 hrs +

Reading, Writing, and assignments: 20+ hrs

Electives: 10 hrs + (consult with lead teacher for approval)
